Why Upward Journey Coaching?

Childhood trauma, cult abuse, and sexual trafficking left me feeling worthless, unclean, and consumed by shame. Healing took years. Emotionally and mentally, it often felt like a roller coaster, and there were times when I believed I would never feel whole again.

It wasn’t until I understood the significance of my relationship with God that I began to recognize healing as an upward journey—not only in recovery, but also in life.

During one of the most difficult seasons of my healing, I felt raw, depleted, and as though I had nothing left to offer. My therapist introduced me to the story of the phoenix rising from the ashes. After being consumed by flames, the phoenix is reborn—symbolizing renewal, transformation, resilience, and strength.

She explained that my healing was much like passing through the fire: the trauma had reduced me to ashes, but I was not destroyed. I was rising, being transformed from within, and becoming resilient despite the pain I had endured.

That image resonated deeply with me. I realized that my transformation had to begin within, and that realization became the foundation of my tagline: Transformation From Within.

My Spiritual Belief

God is an intrinsic part of my life because I know what I have been through, and I understand that without Him, I would not be here today. That does not mean my relationship with God has always been easy. I have feared His wrath, felt that He could never love me, believed I was wretched and wicked and undeserving of His love, and even hated Him for allowing abuse and trauma to plague my life. My faith is strong, but I still make mistakes and sometimes fall short of what I know is right.

My faith is in Jesus, and I am thankful that the Holy Spirit lives in my heart. Because of the cult abuse and the spiritual and sexual abuse I experienced within the church, I struggle with attending church. However, I still have a deep relationship with God and talk with Him throughout each day. I do not commit myself to any particular doctrine or denomination. God knows my heart, and I worship Him regularly at home, in nature, and with friends and family.

My life Scripture is Isaiah 40:31:

“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”

Through pain, turmoil, anxiety, health issues, and many other difficult circumstances, God has been there for me. I may not have recognized His presence at the time, but looking back, I can see that He has remained faithful. In the deepest and darkest moments of my life, I have soared on wings like eagles.

More times than I can count, I have felt as though I could not take one more step. Yet, by His grace, I did. Eventually, I reached the other side and felt stronger and more at peace. Trusting Jesus has not always been easy, and at times it still is not. But whenever I have chosen to trust Him, God has been there for me. I have not always received the answers or outcomes I wanted, but with time and reflection, I have often understood that those were not what I truly needed.

My faith is not based on having a perfect life or never struggling. It is rooted in the knowledge that God has carried me through what I could not survive on my own. Even in seasons of doubt, pain, and confusion, He has remained faithful.

I share this because I know that healing is rarely a straight line, and spiritual journeys can be fraught with pain and contradiction. In my coaching practice, I bring this same spirit of honesty and grace. Whether you are leaning into your faith, wrestling with doubt, or healing from spiritual abuse, I provide a space where your whole story—including the messy parts—is welcome.
